FILM REVIEW:

COLLISION TO DISINTEGRATION (2022)

By Joaquin Longoria

Collision to Disintegration is one of the most, if not the most jarring film I’ve witnessed ever, but in an astutely beautiful way. From unique and fascinating editing techniques and an alluring style of visual storytelling, Welcome Hardin’s film encapsulates the unmistakable mysterious beauty and tragedy of the world that you yourself inhabit. Hardin’s use of grainy and overlapping imagery lends itself exceedingly well to the overall experience, creating an almost unfamiliar, yet recognizable feeling within you.

“One of the most, if not the most jarring film I’ve witnessed ever, but in an astutely beautiful way”

His ability to make you feel lost amongst such familiar environments and imagery is unparalleled, making your perception of such familiarities seem almost abstract. The presentation of it all is almost mystical.

“The appeal of it all comes from what it evokes inside of you.”

Where the real genius of this film comes from, isn’t necessarily what’s given to you, but what you, the viewer, make of it. There are almost an infinite number of ways this piece can be interpreted, however, the appeal of it all comes from what it evokes inside of you. This piece represents, in my mind, the merging of the ideas we as people hold, the world around us, and what happens when they collide. Does it create beauty, or does it create destruction? It brings out the feeling that I exist within this world and that I, in fact, have a place amongst everything. As stated before, what really brings everything in this piece together, is not necessarily some objective and clear viewpoint or stance the film takes, but what you feel within you. The endless expanse of interpretations that can be drawn and the almost pure volatile emotion it brings out of you, make the experience stunningly memorable.

Directed by Welcome Hardin

Composed by Slauson Malone
